With a TIDAL subscription the box can play audiobooks, albums and playlists from TIDAL. It plays them itself, like content from the NAS; your phone does not need to be nearby.

Switching on and signing in

You find the page under Settings › Services › TIDAL.

  1. Switch on Use TIDAL and confirm the notice. The first time, the box sets up the connection; this takes about a minute and needs internet.
  2. Tap Connect to TIDAL. The box shows a code.
  3. Open link.tidal.com on your phone or PC, sign in with your TIDAL account and confirm the code. Your TIDAL password never reaches the box.

The page then shows Connected to TIDAL and the account's country. The sign-in is kept on the box only and stays after a restart or an update. Disconnect deletes it there; switching off stops the connection without deleting the sign-in.

Adding content

Under Library › Add › Search on TIDAL you search for audiobooks, albums, artists and playlists; All, Artist, Albums and Playlists filter the results. What is in the library already has a tick.

  • Tap an album or a playlist, choose the category (Audiobook, Music or Radio & podcasts) and tap Add. For a playlist you also choose under On the start page whether it gets a tile of its own (one tap plays it right away) or stands in a folder, as with Spotify.
  • An artist shows their albums, EPs and singles to add one by one; a search field, All, Albums, EPs & singles and the Order help with many albums. Add the whole artist creates one entry for all of their albums: the box and the app show it as a folder with all albums, including ones released later. Back to search returns to the results.

TIDAL's search does not find your own playlists. For them the same page has:

  • My playlists: your own playlists and the ones you saved on TIDAL – your own first. Tap one and add it as above. Playlists you put into a folder in TIDAL are not in the list; add those through their link.
  • TIDAL link: a playlist or an album someone sent you. In TIDAL, get the link under Share › Copy link, paste it and tap Open link. TIDAL cannot open a private playlist of another account this way.

When a playlist changes on TIDAL, the box plays its new state the next time it starts it.

TIDAL lists some albums several times (in different qualities); the box shows each one once.

For a whole artist, set a range in the Library (tap the entry) under Episodes and albums, Episode from and Episode to: “episode” is the position by release date, 1 is the oldest album. Switch off single albums there with their switch. Save applies both; the box and the app then show only these albums.

The entry then appears on the display in the chosen category, and in the app's library with the source TIDAL. There you can edit or delete it like any other entry (Managing content).

Playing

On the display a TIDAL album plays like an album from the memory card: with the track list (long-press the cover), next and previous, seeking, and continue listening where it stopped. From the app you start it under Listen. Playtime and quiet times apply to TIDAL too.
