Backup and restore checklist

Check backup completeness, test safe restoration and prepare another MuPiBox NG device.

Downloading an archive does not prove every item can be restored. See Backup.

Before downloading

Record the installed NG version and hardware. Decide whether to include local media. Keep separate Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and provider credentials where they are not included in backups.

Verify the archive

  • ZIP exists and has a plausible file size.
  • Media backup size is consistent with your collection.
  • A second copy is stored securely.
  • Archives may include unencrypted passwords and tokens.

Opening the ZIP checks structure, not complete recoverability.

Test restoration

Prefer a spare device or separate SD card. Restore to a compatible NG release; verify categories, covers, RFID bindings, parental restrictions and a known resume position. If including media, test actual playback. Recheck NAS and online provider logins.

A newer-version archive may be rejected by an older NG release. Never publish backup ZIPs on a public issue; include version, backup type and redacted logs instead.
