Music Assistant & Sendspin
Add a Music Assistant server as a music catalogue and use MuPiBox via Sendspin as a speaker and multiroom player for Music Assistant.
Music Assistant combines music services and players, usually together with Home Assistant. MuPiBox can use it in two ways: as a catalogue and – via Sendspin – as a speaker.
Music Assistant as a catalogue
- Switch Provider active on.
- Enter the server address, e.g.
http://homeassistant.local:8095. - Enter a long-lived access token (in Home Assistant under Profile → Security).
- Test the connection. This loads the list of playback targets.
- Choose the playback target: an existing Music Assistant player or – via Sendspin – this MuPiBox itself.
Afterwards the box searches and browses Music Assistant directly; add content under Media & categories with the source Music Assistant.
Sendspin
Sendspin registers MuPiBox as its own player in Music Assistant. Music Assistant can then play directly on the box, and the box can join synchronised multiroom groups.
| Setting | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Player name | name in Music Assistant; empty = box name |
| Preferred codec | PCM is the robust default in a home network. |
| Buffer (ms) | more buffer tolerates Wi-Fi fluctuations but adds delay. |
| Fixed audio delay (ms) | only for outputs with their own delay, e.g. Bluetooth or an AV receiver, so multiroom stays in sync. |
Sendspin uses the same audio output as the box. Audio data stays in the home network and does not go through a cloud.
Interactions
- When Music Assistant plays on the box, that counts as playback: the box does not go into standby or switch off.
- Parental control can prevent switching to Music Assistant targets.
