MuPiBox Documentation MuPiBox NG

Backup and restore

Download a MuPiBox configuration backup – with or without media – and restore it on the same or a new box.

Under Maintenance → Backup you save all settings and restore them.

Downloading a backup

BackupContent
Configuration backupsettings, categories and media, RFID cards, NAS shares, parental control, playback progress, own covers, sounds and start images, credentials of linked services and the password hash
Backup including mediaadditionally all files under /srv/mupibox/music and the offline podcasts

The database is saved consistently while the box is running.

Not included and to be set up again after a new installation: Wi-Fi credentials, Bluetooth pairings, the Home Assistant pairing, the Audible sign-in, the Spotify playback sign-in, Samba and Linux passwords and the boot order.

Restoring

  1. Choose a MuPiBox backup (ZIP file).
  2. Optionally also restore included media.
  3. Restore backup and confirm.

Settings and progress are replaced. Beforehand the box automatically creates a safety backup. A backup from a newer MuPiBox version is rejected. Afterwards you log in with the password from the backup.

Automatic backups before updates

Before every update the box additionally saves the database and configuration under /var/lib/mupibox-ng/backups/. See Updates.
