NAS / network media
Add media from an SMB share (NAS, Windows PC), use folders directly or copy them into the local library and keep them in sync.
Under Content → Providers & services → NAS you connect shares of a NAS or Windows PC (SMB).
Adding a share
| Field | Content |
|---|---|
| Display name | name in the admin interface |
| Server / IP | e.g. 192.168.1.10 or nas.local |
| SMB share | name of the share, e.g. Music |
| Access | guest or user with password |
| User name, domain, password | credentials; the password is kept when editing if the field stays empty |
| Only in Wi-Fi (optional) | only mount the share when the box is in this Wi-Fi – handy on the road |
Shares are mounted only when needed and never at boot – an unreachable NAS never delays the box's start.
Choosing folders
After connecting, you browse the share and choose exactly the folders the box may use:
- NAS tick: the folder is read directly from the NAS. Without a network it is not available.
- Take over locally: the files are copied to
/srv/mupibox/musicand then used like local media. - Copy once: the copy stays independent of the NAS.
- Keep local & sync: new and changed files are added automatically later. Files deleted on the NAS stay locally.
The chosen folders are then available under Media & categories as the source NAS or as local media.
