Media & categories
Create categories and add media from local folders, web radio, podcasts, ARD Sounds, Spotify, Audible, Jellyfin, NAS and the kids apps to the start page.
Under Content → Media & categories you decide what the child sees on the start page. The start page consists of categories (e.g. "Audio plays", "Music", "Radio") that hold media as covers.
Categories
- New category: give it a name, optionally in several languages. Change the order by dragging or with the arrows.
- A category can be hidden without deleting its media.
- A category can point directly to a source (e.g. a Spotify artist); its albums then appear right below the heading.
Adding media
The wizard first asks for the source:
| Source | What you choose |
|---|---|
| Local media | a folder from /srv/mupibox/music (filled via file sharing) or the whole library |
| NAS | a shared folder of a connected NAS |
| Web radio | a station from the Radio Browser search or your own stream address |
| Podcast | via the Apple Podcasts search or an RSS/Atom feed address |
| ARD Sounds | a show from the ARD Sounds search, a show URL or urn:ard:show:… |
| Spotify | artist, album, playlist, show/podcast or a single track → Spotify |
| Audible | an audiobook from your library → Audible |
| Jellyfin | artists, albums, tracks or playlists → Jellyfin |
| Music Assistant | content of all services connected there → Music Assistant |
| Recently played | a row with recently started media to continue |
| Piano, games, colouring book | the kids apps as a tile |
Name and cover can be overridden; you upload your own covers directly in the media item.
Playback progress
Audiobooks, audio plays, podcasts and ARD episodes remember the position and continue there on the next tap. The "Recently played" row shows started media.
Podcasts and offline episodes
- A feed is reloaded when it is opened, not permanently in the background.
- Offline cache per podcast: off, last 1/3/5/10 episodes or all. Episodes that have not been finished are not removed automatically.
- With "Children may download and delete episodes" every episode gets a symbol:
↓download,↓ n %downloading,✓ Offlineavailable,!failed. Deleting needs a second tap within four seconds. - ARD episodes can only be downloaded when ARD allows the download for that very episode.
Storage
The top of the page shows total, used and free storage and the size of the offline cache. At 10 % free storage the box warns, at 5 % it starts no new downloads.
RFID cards
Media can be linked to RFID cards: hold the card to the reader, choose the media item, save. If RFID is switched off, a notice appears here – switch it on under RFID.
Interactions
- Sources blocked by parental control disappear from the kids' interface and cannot be started via RFID either.
- Online sources (Spotify, radio, podcasts) are hidden while there is no internet connection and come back automatically.
