Home Assistant dashboard

Ready-made YAML for a nice MuPiBox page in Home Assistant – player, battery, display image, announcements and maintenance – plus automation examples.

With the Home Assistant integration you get the MuPiBox player, battery, Wi-Fi and maintenance in Home Assistant. This page gives you a ready-made dashboard card to paste and two automations as templates. Only cards that are built into Home Assistant are used – no extra HACS frontend needed.

First: check the entity names

The integration names the entities after the device. In the examples the box is called MuPiBox, so all IDs start with mupibox_ (e.g. media_player.mupibox_player). If your box has a different name, such as "Kids room", the ID is media_player.kids_room_player.

To check the IDs, open Settings → Devices & services → MuPiBox → device and click the entities. For some entities (buttons, audio output, announcement) the name depends on the language Home Assistant used during setup – look those IDs up there.

Battery and charging values are only available with a MuPiHAT. The announcement entity and the restart/power-off buttons only exist if you allowed TTS and display messages or Restart and shutdown while pairing.

The dashboard card

  1. Tap the pencil (Edit dashboard) at the top right of the dashboard.
  2. Add card → choose Manual at the very bottom.
  3. Delete the content, paste the YAML below, adjust the entity IDs if needed, Save.

Automation: good-night announcement

Every evening at 7:30 pm an announcement, then the volume is turned down. volume_level refers to the box's maximum volume: 0.2 is 20 % of it. Paste under Settings → Automations & scenes → Create automation → ⋮ → Edit in YAML:

Automation: low battery warning

Sends a message to your phone when the battery drops below 15 % and the box is not charging. Replace notify.mobile_app_your_phone with your own notification service.
