RFID
Connect a USB RFID reader, teach cards and link them to albums, audio plays, Spotify playlists, radio stations or ARD episodes.
With RFID cards or figures, children start their favourite content without a display. Under Hardware → RFID you set up the reader.
Supported readers
| Type | Note |
|---|---|
| USB RFID (HID, e.g. Neuftech) | sends the card ID like a keyboard; 125 kHz or 13.56 MHz depending on the reader |
| PN532 via USB (UART, 13.56 MHz) | supported, not yet tested on hardware |
Readers connect via USB and use no GPIO pins.
Setup
- Enable RFID. The switch is saved immediately.
- Choose the reader type and click Find reader.
- Select the reader found and click Connect. The box remembers the reader by its hardware ID, even when it is plugged into another USB port.
- Debounce: how long the same card is ignored after being read (default 1500 ms), so that a card lying on the reader does not restart all the time.
Teaching cards
- Hold the card to the reader – the detected card appears.
- Choose the target type: local folder, start page entry, Spotify album, Spotify playlist, radio station or ARD episode.
- Enter or pick the target ID and click Save assignment.
The easiest way is to link cards directly in the media item under Media & categories: the target is already preselected there.
Behaviour
- Placing a card starts the target; a media item with progress continues where it stopped.
- A card linked to a whole ARD show starts the newest episode.
- Sources blocked by parental control do not start by card either.
