Player
Player mode, skip buttons, cover background, sound visualisation, karaoke with lyrics and how content is shown on the touch display.
Under Box → Player & behaviour you decide how the big player and the content views behave on the touch display.
Mini player sizes
In Persistent mode, Box → Player & behaviour → Mini player size offers Slim (compact cover, title and previous/play/next), Standard (the unchanged original bar including seek and volume) and Large (taller bar and larger controls). Standard is the backwards-compatible default. Dedicated mode does not display a mini player.
Player mode
| Mode | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Dedicated (default) | Playback belongs to the big player. When the child leaves the player, playback stops. Good for small children. |
| Persistent | Music keeps playing while browsing. A mini player at the bottom leads back to the big player. |
Skip buttons and skip length
Shows or hides the buttons for relative skipping (e.g. −10 s / +10 s) in the big player and in the track list. The timeline can always be used. The skip length sets how far one press jumps – 30 seconds is handy for audiobooks.
Cover as player background
Shows the cover of the current track blurred or darkened behind the player. Depending on the theme this looks more atmospheric; very busy covers can reduce readability.
Sound visualisation
An optional effect under the cover that matches the theme, e.g. equalizer bars, Retro Peak, mirror spectrum, waveform, dots, Ambient Pulse, Fog, Fireflies, Aurora or Particle Orb. "Automatic" picks the effect that matches the theme. Intensity and position can be set. On a Raspberry Pi 3 the visualisation costs noticeable processing power – switch it off if the interface stutters.
Karaoke
When karaoke is enabled and synchronised lyrics exist for the current track, a karaoke button appears in the big player.
- Local lyrics are found next to the audio file:
song.lrc,song.elrcorsong.enhanced.lrc(same name as the music file). - Online lyrics come from LRCLIB. With "Cache found lyrics locally" they are loaded only once.
- The moving word marker needs real word timestamps; otherwise the active line is highlighted.
Content display
Sets how the views between the start page and the player look – for all media types and themes:
| Mode | Description |
|---|---|
| Vertical | Large covers below each other, good for long titles. |
| Horizontal (classic) | A row of covers to swipe sideways, like MuPiBox Classic. |
| Cover Flow | The selected cover is in the centre, its neighbours tilt back. |
