Add MuPiBox to Home Assistant – automatic discovery in the home network, installing the integration via HACS and what can be controlled.
MuPiBox is discovered automatically by the Home Assistant integration in the home network. No MQTT broker is needed.
Automatic discovery
With automatic discovery (mDNS/Zeroconf) switched on, the box announces itself as _mupibox._tcp.local. Home Assistant then suggests it as a new device and finds it again after an IP address change.
Installation via HACS
- In HACS add the repository shown in the admin interface as a custom repository (type "Integration").
- Install the MuPiBox integration and restart Home Assistant.
- Add the suggested MuPiBox under Settings → Devices & services.
Once the integration is listed in the official HACS catalogue, step 1 is no longer needed.
What Home Assistant can do
The integration uses the box's local interface: player (playback, volume, title), voice output (TTS messages), battery, Wi-Fi and system status. This lets you automate, for example, good-night announcements or a volume limit in the evening.
Access and security
Normal player and status functions are available in the home network without logging in. Protected maintenance actions (e.g. restart) optionally use the admin password.
