Hardware – overview
Which hardware MuPiBox NG supports – Raspberry Pi, displays, MuPiHAT, audio, buttons, rotary encoder, RFID, fan and Bluetooth – and where it is set up.
Under Box → Hardware you set up everything connected to the box. The overview shows a tile for each area.
Raspberry Pi
| Model | Suitability |
|---|---|
| Raspberry Pi 4 (1–8 GB) | reference, recommended |
| Raspberry Pi 5 | supported |
| Raspberry Pi 3B / 3B+ | works but noticeably slower; better switch off visualisation and online TTS |
Areas
| Area | For | Page |
|---|---|---|
| Display & touch | display profile, resolution, rotation | Display & touch |
| MuPiHAT | battery, charger, power button, amplifier | MuPiHAT |
| Audio | audio hardware for all sounds | Audio |
| Buttons | playback buttons, LEDs, volume rotary encoder | Buttons & rotary encoder |
| RFID | USB RFID reader | RFID |
| Fan | temperature-controlled GPIO fan | Fan |
| Bluetooth | headphones and speakers | Bluetooth |
Which GPIO pins each function uses and what excludes what is in the GPIO reference.
Power supply
A weak power supply is a common cause of crashes and Wi-Fi dropouts. For a Pi 4 with display and amplifier, 5 V / 3 A is a good guideline. With a MuPiHAT its status shows the voltage that actually arrives from the power supply.
