First steps
The most important settings after the installation – password, box name, Wi-Fi, audio, content and parental control in the right order.
After the installation this order works well. Every step links to the detailed page.
- Set an admin password – without one, anybody in your home network can manage the box. → Security
- Box name and time zone – the name appears in the network and as the Spotify Connect device. → General
- Check Wi-Fi – choose the preferred adapter, save more networks if needed. → Network
- Choose the audio output – MuPiHAT, USB sound card, headphone jack or HDMI; set start and maximum volume. → Audio
- Enable hardware – MuPiHAT, buttons, RFID reader, fan. → Hardware
- Add content – copy music through file sharing, create categories, connect web radio, podcasts or Spotify. → Media & categories
- Look – theme, start image, background. → Design
- Display & power – brightness, screensaver, standby and switching off when idle. → Display & power
- Parental control – usage times, listening time, blocked sources. → Parental control
- Backup – download a configuration backup once everything is set up. → Backup
Getting music onto the box
The easiest way is file sharing: enable the share, open \\<boxname>\MuPiBox in Explorer and copy folders into music. One folder per album or audio play works best. Then assign it to a category under Media & categories.
The kids' interface
- Start page: categories with rows of covers. A tap opens an album, a series or a station.
- Big player: cover, title, timeline, previous/next, volume and queue.
- Status bar at the top: volume, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, battery and clock. A short tap announces the state (when text-to-speech is enabled), a long press opens the matching quick page.
